Deadpool Team-Up #894 Revealed
I'm glad the movie is still being made, but does it need to be a reboot when it's so easy to fix the Wolverine Origins Deadpool? Even the director said that since the film is an origin film your only seeing Deadpool's origin but not his final result. You don't see what he turns into at the end, so basically we only got half of that version story. That story is incomplete why not finish it, instead of just dropping it entirely?
- Reboot
- 4th wall
- Ryan Reynolds
Same three things always gets mentioned, at least in this interview we are treated with the kind of new information that they are looking for writers and that one of the producers whats Blind Al in the film. Which is good since I want Blind Al in the film as well.
I like how it sounds like they're looking most closely at Deadpool prior to Cable and Deadpool. In fact, the only mentioned aspect of Deadpool taken from after he gained his own title is Blind Al... maybe she's reading through the comics very slowly and hasn't gotten far beyond the two mini series.
But trying to make it the "Cable and Deadpool" style Deadpool would be convoluted and messy. For the purposes of a movie, it should be kept simple.
As for the 'reboot', it's because acknowledging that horrible trash of a movie would be a bad start. Best to make it modern, dark and cynical.
The problem with keeping it in the same canon as the previous movie, besides the Baraka-pool madness, the crappy weapon X-ness, and the fact that Deadpool would be 50 or so (even with the healing factor).
The other movie took place in the late 60s/early 70s, even given time for Wolverine to run away from the project. To have it take place in the 2000's, he'd be at least 40 or 50's.
And come on, who wants old man Deadpool?
Also: Old Man Logan sucked and Mark Miller sucks whenever he doing anything for the big Two publishers.
It would be completely retarded as well to be alive for many decades, unless he was in seclusion, and not change at all.
I also wasn't saying that I think the movie should tie into the Wolverine movie, I was saying that I don't think failing to tie into that movie would technically make it a reboot. I've always understood a reboot to refer to starting the continuity of an actual series over, like Batman Begins did with the Batman movies. Basing a movie on a character who happened to have a small role in a different movie, and making that movie have nothing to do with that cameo, doesn't seem like it would technically be a reboot. It's the first boot. If there were a sequel to the Wolverine movie, and that sequel had the Deadpool character in it, it would most likely still be the same Deadpool that was created for Wolverine: Origins (or X-Men Origins: Wolverine or whatever it was called.)
But as for the continuity, it's better just to 'reboot' and ignore the old in-movie canon. Otherwise his ties to Weapon X would be through his joining Team X, etc etc. I'd rather he just be a guy who gets picked up and experimented on by Weapon X and then rejected and does his own thing, none of the team x junk.
*Bonus points to those who get the reference.
2. Blind Al was seen before C&D and very little after
2. I know, I was referring to the first time he got his own series. Deadpool's involvement with Slayback, Black Tom, and Weasel was introduced before that point.
Underdax: I think by reboot, they just forget that deadpool in Origins ever existed. But you are right. Wrong word choice.
Call me delusional, but I think this is going to be a case where the internet is going to play a big part in keep this movie on track. I think the consistent "buzzing" and "ranting" done by the Deadpool fans (Which i'm clearly guilty of), is going to help the producers and everyone involved with their eye on the ball. Now i don't look at alot of Captain America (or other heroes) fan sites, But i gotta assume Deadpool Fans are some of the most Vocal (just from personal experience). Maybe the occasional Video Rant about Demanding our money back if the movie doesn't get made will help and/or has helped inspire them to keep the ball rolling on this and to keep the fans informed. WOW that is incredibly conceded of me...
And i loved the line about breath the 4th wall when she said,
"I don't know that Fox will agree with all our decisions, but we'll see!"
Which makes me gotta believe they're going to make fun on Barakapool.
"What? He's not going to look like Barakapool in this one? Hmmm... I dunno about that."
"Of course he's not going to look like Barakapool. Barakapool sucked big hairy buns."
"We like Brakapool."
"You're a ho."
"Bitch."
"We're doing this thing true to the comics."
"There'd better be a Barakapool comic..."
"Fortunately, no."
"=(.... Fine. You can do it."
8D
crap.
I'm frightened! hold me
But talking directly to the audience in a movie??? FAIL
Thank god you're not a writer.
Talk about over the head...
2. I actually just finished watching that Cartoon on tv and figured this would be a perfect time to use that quote.
3. I actually thought you were serious. Sarcasm is very hard to display online.
eh whatever. That foghorn quote is still golden. If the Deadpool movie uses and ALMOST Looney Tunes style of situational humor it would be great (has to be implimented well though)
When I think about 4th wall breaking on a movie/series/etc, I think to old Merry Melodies cartoons where Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck would give a look to the audience, or cover their lips from view and go "he's got a few screws loose" or something along those lines.
I think in the movie it could be done properly, a wink, a quick comment, something small.
Or just showing that he knows he is in a movie, without directly speaking to the audience. You know the line "This is all someones imagination! There is this guy, with a type writer..." something like that could be pretty cool I think.
Or if you wanna be more direct have Pool quote famous lines from famous movies with a knowing grin visible under his mask. Have him pull out a shot gun and go "I like to keep this handy, for close encounters" for example.
But what I think is essential, is to make sure it isn't too goofy. Play off his fourth wall breaking as though the guy really is completely wacked out of his mind. Another character reacting to him like "WTF are you on about Wade?".
Narrating the story is always an option, but I think one or two instances, a sudden "You'll get this later" nod to the audience. Or confusing the hell out of a tied up/held down target, them looking around confused when he makes a quick remark about the target as if they're not there and he's explaining something to us. Kinda amps up his screw loose factor too.
I want to see something a tad more subtle, like the famous line where DP mentions meeting bullseye in issue 16
I dunno. Something like that.
Weee! with Blind Al and the Weasel, also hopes to see siryn in there.
How do you keep Wade's ties with any X-men characters that have allready appeared. This could potentialy prevent Siryn from appearing, as well as Juggs and Wolvie.
And I hope they set Ajax up as a future villian, I think he may just be Deadpool's best, of the stories I've read atleast.
Magneto is on the back burner, and Deadpool is on the fast-track.
It looks like it'll be Wolverine 2, Deadpool, XMen First Class, then maybe Magneto.
I'm glead to see that Deadpool is a priority over Magneto.
While Goyer can get a decent thought down on paper, i'm not sure he's the mind you wanna put on something that should be dark and humorous with action overtones. Batman and Blade movies aren't exactly something that are in the same category as a Deadpool movie. It should be dark, gritty to a degree, with action as well.
The humor in Blade Trinity (where Goyer directed) was also cartoonish/slapstick, something Deadpool should only be slightly, not constantly.
Maybe Quentin Tarantino would be willing to do it. Or maybe the guy from District 9, which had dark humor, good acting and story, action and a real soul to it.
Producer I'd say go with Avi Arid, or however you spell it. He has a great respect for the character, even before Deadpool became a big name. And his son's an even bigger fan, so there'd be a die hard fan hopefully near or on the set and saying "Hey dad, hey DAD they're doing it wrong". Or something.
Director? I dunno. Part of me wants Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz) director, but only if he'd keep the slapstick to minimum. He can do the cerebral as well as the in your face funny, as well as dark and gritty when it's called for.
The other part of me says get a newbie with talent.
I guess if Goyer writes it and they stick to his style of humor, mostly wordplay and sarcasm/dark etc like in Blade Trinity, with pop culture references of course, and just used him as a director and stuck to Goyer's idea it could work.
"You should have taken up (spoiler)'s offer, Deadpool!
Yeah, like I even had the chance! The writers said something about branching conversations and whatnot..." or something like that. Make subtle references, you know?
